So, back in early June (June 6th to be precise) I had my 80th birthday. My wife’s daughter and her partner gave me this website as a present. They knew I was fond of writing limerick meter poetry to comment on all aspects life and living, and they felt (quite rightly) that this would be the ideal gift.
“Don’t let him drift into topless bars or play in traffic” they thought. Give him a challenge and a purpose, and a vehicle to express 80 years of living. And thus Limerick Rodeo was born.
I don’t know where this will go, or how it may evolve. What I do know is that I plan to write at least one limerick a day, and touch on all subjects except on politics; I am politicked out!
My limericks resemble original limericks in meter and form only, and not in exclusively naughty context. There will be no “There was a young man from Kent” material. Also, I will at times make them several stanzas long which is different. Finally, while I may occasionally need to refer to a rhyming dictionary, I will not be using AI. Good or bad my efforts will be original to my skull. My intent is to be topical, amusing, quirky, relevant, accurate, but most of all entertaining. Here’s an example:
Here’s some quick thoughts that I have on seltzer
Quenches thirst but does not hurt your belt sir
Chilling bubbles are dear
But much less carbs than beer
So your body can remain very svelte sir
